The first part of this quote is applying to us I believe and how educations starts with each individual learning about themselves. The sacriligio gallery was something that really changed my perspective in New York and I think looking at these galleries through windows and mirrors is what allowed everyone to either make a personal connection or see others perspective and have some empathy. Noticing things and being aware of situations that you never knew existed before is what a window is supposed to be. The sacriligio exhibit was an example of changing mirrors into windows. On the surface you see a very holy and sacred image but once you look through the window you see a much deeper meaning behind the art and something we consumer in everyday and do not even realize. An educated individual gains respect through their ability to change the lenses they view life from and the ability to be critical in situations by looking at standpoints that are not necessarily like their own.

Even though on the surface art is something tangible like a painting or sculpture, it relies mainly on the interpretation of the audience. For this we need mirrors and windows present in all of us. The eye is trained to see things as they appear; rather we need to see the hidden messages behind a lot of the art. I even think in class we have opened windows through discussions about religion, sexuality and even the self portraits. I was a little confused in the PPOW exhibit and found that once I asked the people around me what they thought of the work it shaped my own thoughts as well.
